In late 2019, and again in 2024, a group of internationally acclaimed fashion industry professionals, led by renowned photographer Derek Henderson, created a series of photographs of Eden’s high fashion garments in stunning Central Otago landscapes. The photographs are testament to the collaborative efforts of many helpers, fashion curators and textile conservation specialists, all drawn by the mystique of the Eden Hore Central Otago collection. These photography projects were developed in partnership with the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongawera and Central Otago District Council.

The 2019 photographs, which have been produced as a limited-edition series, was on display at one of New Zealand’s leading contemporary art galleries –The Dowse Art Museum in Lower Hutt. The photos featured alongside 25 of Eden’s couture garments in the exhibition as part of the gallery’s 50th anniversary programme of exhibitions.

Experience the glamour

1. Toitū Otago Settlers Museum, Dunedin: Currently, you can experience the glamour of this couture collection at Eden in Dunedin, showcasing a stunning selection of garments from the Eden Hore Collection. Presented alongside these fashion treasures is a striking new series of digital photographs by Derek, captured in 2024, offering fresh perspectives on the extended collection. The exhibition will run for a further two years, giving visitors ample opportunity to explore the world of high fashion and rural eccentricity that defines Eden Hore’s legacy.
2. Central Stories Museum and Gallery, Alexandra: Display feature the newly designed garment pods, framed Derek Henderson imagery and the Central Otago Couture book and merchandise.
3. lohi linen, Ranfurly: Display feature two newly designed garment pods, framed Derek Henderson imagery and the Central Otago Couture book and merchandise.
4. Art Deco Gallery and Museum, Ranfurly: Display feature accessories including hats, shoes and gloves from the collection as well as electronic imagery from the Derek Henderson photoshoots. Open during the summer of 2026.
5. Feinerman's General Store, Roxburgh: Display feature the newly designed garment pods, framed Derek Henderson imagery and the Central Otago Couture book and merchandise.
6. Early Settlers Museum, Naseby: Display feature a garment from the collection as well as a framed image from the Derek Henderson photoshoots.

The Central Otago District Council host in-region, mini displays which provide a tangible link to the exhibition within its Central Otago home. Make sure you follow us on social media for updates to new venues!

Complementing the exhibitions is the newly released book Central Otago Couture: The Eden Hore Collection, co-authored by Dr Jane Malthus and Claire Regnault and published by Te Papa Press as well as Eden Hore merchandise.
