A new season launches for Eden Hore Central Otago photographic exhibition
The Eden Hore Central Otago photographic exhibition promises to be a sensory delight for the Central Otago region again this season.
The exhibition’s second season begins on 1 October in the heart of Central Otago wine country with a photo trail across four Bannockburn wineries, featuring some of the district’s finest wines alongside a selection of images captured by renowned photographer Derek Henderson. The photography will also be on display at the Eat.Taste.Central Mindfood Long Lunch. Then it is on the move to the Clyde Historical Museum for a two-month stint, and then on to Naseby just before Christmas.
This photoshoot project with Derek Henderson was developed in partnership with the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongawera and Central Otago District Council to bring alive Māniatoto farmer Eden Hore’s exceptional gown collection and to demonstrate its relevance to contemporary fashion and design within its Central Otago home.
“More than garments, Eden Hore Central Otago is a compelling story set in the timeless and majestic Central Otago high country, of an unlikely fashion enthusiast who amassed a collection of ladies’ 1970s and 80s garments that personify the flamboyance, vibrancy, and elegance of an industry that he loved,” Central Otago Mayor Time Cadogan explained.
“Finding innovative ways to bring the story of Eden Hore and the collection he developed to the people of the district and the nation is a firm focus of the Eden Hore Central Otago Steering Group that I chair.”
The travelling Eden Hore Central Otago photography exhibition was a real success last summer, with hundreds of people throughout Central Otago coming to view the stunning photographs. The exhibition was launched in December at the Maniototo Early Settlers Museum in Naseby – Eden’s homeland. During the summer season it travelled to Alexandra’s Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery, McNulty House in Cromwell, the woolshed at Wedderburn Cottages and the Ophir Peace Hall.
“All hosting venues were generously shared by local community groups and their dedicated volunteers. Without their help these exhibitions would not have been possible,” Community and Engagement Manager Paula Penno said.
“We are looking forward to bringing the exhibition to our Central Otago communities again this season”, Ms Penno said. “It is a privilege and delight to continue exploring ways to tell Eden’s unique story.”
